PM Narender Modi has completed the second year of his second tenure today on 30th May 2021. Unlike his first stint, this term he seems lonelier humming ‘akla chalo re’ from Tagore’s poetry collection. He looks immersed or submerged in Tagore’s personality although Bengali’s haven’t rewarded him for his new avatar. Why the PM is alone? Where did his cabinet members have disappeared? it’s not clear who left whom??
HM Amit Shah made a flamboyant entry in Delhi politics but soon disappeared from the limelight thereafter as if he has got a deep slumber and will wake up occasionally like Khumbkarna only when an opposition-led assembly to be conquered. The Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, who regularly uses his weapon of ‘Kadi Ninda’ hasn’t seen recently it looks the stockpile of ‘Kadi Ninda’ has vanished.
Health Minister Dr. Harshvardhan should have been busy, but surprisingly looks free for social media prescribing only non-allopathic medicine which he hasn’t studied in medical college. Surface Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari has gone for a long drive on an unknown ‘path’ may be towards Nagpur.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman hasn’t recovered from the shocking reprimand of her husband and still thinking, was it better to focus on her kitchen? At least, the damage would have been limited. Textile Minister Smirti Irani looks busy arranging new costumes for herself and talking to Ekta Kapoor for a new role in an upcoming Kserial Ksoap.
The rest of the other ministers are not known to the public much, as these ministries or twitteries are not so popular or not allowed to get popularity by PMO. JP Nadda and others get news coverage only when they retaliate against Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Twitter. Nowadays, Sonia Gandhi also not providing them many opportunities for twitting.
Whereas, the lonely PM is busy ‘talking everywhere non-stop, whether it is the conference of VCs from all over India or a meet of AC Mechanics, whether it is the use of a vaccine or use of Ayurveda, whether it is yoga or Karate, his address to the nation is a must!! He likes to give ‘free advice’ to students for examination even if exams are cancelled. This routine keeps him busy for 18 hours a day with camera exposure for 20 hours.
On a serious note, it is imperative for any successful leader to sub-delegate tasks to others and focuses on planning and retrospection mostly in seclusion. Media glare and attention could be needed for newcomers and not for a seasoned statesman. The philosophy and policy of inclusion especially during a period of crisis often get wide acceptance and good fruitions. Earlier Premiers relied even on the abilities of then opposition leader Mr. Vajpayee occasionally, demonstrating the same thing. On the contrary, now a self-centred approach without significant deliberations has been adopted and the results are self-evident. Political Leaders will be remembered in history for only one thing and that is ‘Pain’, how much they have inflicted on others or how much they have relieved, nothing else.
