Twelve Christian couples belonging to the tribal community converted back to Hinduism in the Shivarimal village of Dang district on Sunday. A ‘Ghar Wapsi’ programme was organized by non-government organizations namely Vaidehi Sanskardham Ashram, Jay Shri Ram Agniveer Hindu Sangathan and Tejaswini Sanskruti Charitable Trust. Vaidehi Sanskardham Ashram’s head Yashoda didi told that “My associates and I travel across Dang and other tribal areas in the state to connect with adivasi brothers and sisters who have converted to Christianity.”, reports first India.
She added, “We explain the value of Hinduism to them, and once they agree to give up Christianity, a yagna (holy fire) is organized. Before sitting down for the yagna, the converts are required to take a bath in Unai Lake post which they are offered a kanthi (bead necklace) and an idol of their God or Goddess. All 12 couples of Shivarimal and its surrounding areas also attended a shuddhikaran programme on December 26.
Now Hindus by religion, the couples will follow all rituals followed by the tribal community, previously revered by their forefathers before conversion to Christianity, said Yashoda didi. In this calendar year alone, 30 families of Dharampur and over 144 families in 2019 converted back to Hinduism.
Tejaswini Sanskruti Charitable Trust’s head Hetal Desai told First India that Yashoda didi and her team had been working hard to bring back converts to the Sanatan Dharma. “We do not lure them as Christians do, we speak to the families a number of times, build bonds and only when they are convinced about their roots in Hinduism, we organize a Shuddhikaran programme.”
Interestingly, the biggest ever ‘Ghar Wapsi’ programme was organized by the Hindu Dharma Jagran Sammelan in December 2018 at the Biliya-Aslona village in Valsad district, where over 200 tribal Christians converted back to Hinduism. The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has launched a sister organization called the Akhil Bharatiya Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram to bring back converts to Hinduism.
Siyasat.net adds :  According to RSS sources that the main focus of religious gatherings like these, was to increase awareness and religiosity among people. Lack of religiosity was the main reason for conversion, and not backwardness, sources claimed.
The Sangh claimed that about 15,000 Christians had reconverted to Hinduism in the tiny southern district of Gujarat in last some years.
The Sangh has identified 55 districts in the country where the growth of Christianity and Islam has shown an ‘abnormal’ increase in the 2001 census
