Jack Draper, a well-known tennis player from Britain, lost to Jannik Sinner in the men’s singles semi-final at the Arthur Ashe Stadium on Saturday, signaling the end of his disappointing US Open 2024 campaign. The 22-year-old was defeated 7-5 7(7)-6 6-2 and was eliminated from the Grand Slam competition.

In the second set, Draper also experienced a memorable moment of jubilation as he produced an incredible backhand volley to win a point in the eighth game. Once he understood, Draper just pointed to his ears and glanced at the assembly, as though he was calling on them to sing his name. The video is available here:

Even though it appeared that Sinner had hurt his wrist throughout the fight, he was still able to finish it. Throughout the match, Draper’s eight double faults also benefited the Italian.

In the first set, Sinner and Draper had traded early breaks, but by the start of the second set, the Italian was in total command.

In the second set, Draper held his service for an extended period of time during a four-deuce opening game, but he was unable to capitalize on a break point opportunity in the subsequent game. He even put down his racket to change his shoes after the sixth game, and in the eighth game, he puked twice. In the ninth game, Sinner also stumbled and appeared to be in discomfort.

Draper declared following the game, “”I’m not going to retire in a Grand Slam semifinal.” I am aware that the last set didn’t look so good from courtside or on television. was putting up a fierce struggle. I’m proud of myself, you know. I made every effort to fight. Simply put, you won’t succeed in your endeavor against such person.”

“All I have to do is continue to grow, learn, and encounter circumstances like this one where I got stuck. It’s experiences, following all the correct procedures, regular training, and eventually you just keep getting stronger and better,” he continued.
