IPL 2025: Will Rohit Sharma Join Punjab Kings? Official PBKS Drops a Hint

With his captaincy taken away from him prior to the 2024 season, Indian player Rohit Sharma’s career at the Mumbai Indians (MI) is seriously in jeopardy. There’s a lot of conjecture that Rohit might be let go by the franchise and put up for sale in 2025. Punjab Kings have surfaced as a potential candidate to hire him.

Paris 2024: Sports Ministry’s Investment in Indian Athletes

The future of India’s ODI and Test captain Rohit Sharma is still up in the air as tensions over the blockbuster auction and retention policies for the 2025 Indian Premier League loom. Significant questions exist around the 2024 T20 World Cup winner’s future with Mumbai Indians (MI), since he was relieved of captaincy ahead of the 2024 season to make room for Hardik Pandya.

In addition to being one of the best Indian cricket players of all time, Rohit is also tied with MS Dhoni for the most victories as an IPL captain. MI won five IPL titles under Rohit’s leadership: in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020.

It goes without saying that Rohit will be one of the most sought-after players if MI does not retain him and he goes to the mega auction. There will be no shortage of suitors for him because there are numerous teams in need of a leader. The Punjab Kings (PBKS), who will require a new captain after Shikhar Dhawan retires, are one squad that has been connected to Rohit.

While Preity Zinta, a co-owner of PBKS, played down reports that the team was seeking to sign Rohit Sharma for the 2024 IPL season, things might be different in the 2025 mega auction. Sanjay Bangar, the team’s head of cricket development, cautioned that the 37-year-old will command a premium price at the auction but would not rule out the potential that the 2014 runners-up will try to recruit him.

“Everything relies on whether we have the necessary cash on hand. “I think Rohit will fetch a high price if he goes up for auction,” Bangar stated during a video conversation on the RAO Podcast’s YouTube page.

The IPL Legacy of Rohit Sharma

After Ricky Ponting’s resignation in the middle of the 2013 season, Rohit, who joined MI in 2011, was named captain. During the first three seasons of the league, the Indian captain began his career with the Deccan Chargers (DC).

When DC raised the championship in 2009, Rohit took home the honor for developing player. With six IPL championships under his belt, Rohit is tied with Ambati Rayudu for the most decorated player in IPL history.

Having participated in all 17 league seasons, Rohit has amassed 6628 runs at an average of 29.72 in 257 games. He has amassed two centuries at bat and claimed 15 wickets, including three in a row.
