Examining students’ thorough comprehension of a range of undergraduate-level disciplines in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science, Commerce, Arts, and Humanities, GATE is a national exam.
On behalf of the National Coordination Board (NCB) – GATE, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India, the examination is jointly administered by IISc and seven IITs, which are IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Madras, and IIT Roorkee.
Candidates who meet the requirements will be eligible to apply for admission to Master’s programmes and doctoral programmes in engineering, technology, architecture, science, commerce, and the humanities, with the possibility of receiving financial aid.
They will also be eligible to apply for admission to PhD programmes in relevant fields of science, engineering, technology, architecture, commerce, and the arts and humanities at universities funded by the government and the Ministry of Education (MoE).
Certain colleges and institutes also take the GATE scores into account when admitting students to postgraduate programmes without MoE scholarships.
