BSNL distributes 27 land lots across 11 states: The government-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has blocked 27 land parcels spread across 11 states and Union Territories as part of a significant push towards the asset monetisation strategy.
These land parcels include phone exchanges, unoccupied land, administrative buildings, staff quarter compounds, etc., according to the document that The Indian Express was able to access. They are dispersed over the states of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Puducherry, Punjab, and West Bengal. Through a Request for Proposal (RFP) on May 16, 2024, the BSNL had requested bids for the auction of land parcels in these states through an e-tender followed by an e-auction. On June 3, 2024, a pre-bid virtual meeting for each land parcel has been scheduled in response to this. These 27 land lots have a combined reserve price of around Rs 476 crore.
Apart from this, a source stated that the BSNL has also compiled a list of more than 500 land lots and structures spread across many states, which it plans to sell in the upcoming days. It is estimated that the total area covered by these properties is close to one crore square meters. Additionally, another state-run telecom company, Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL), has created a list of properties that would be made available for purchase in Delhi and Mumbai. Neeraj Mittal, the union telecom secretary, has written to all secretaries and chief secretaries of ministries and government agencies, requesting that they ask Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) and organizations that fall under them to benefit from the “outright” sale of BSNL properties. This action coincides with the announcement of the plan.
“In 2019, the Union Cabinet approved BSNL/MTNL’s rehabilitation plan, which includes selling off its excess land and construction assets. Both MTNL and BSNL have properties in Delhi and Mumbai, while their asset bases are dispersed throughout the nation. The majority of the properties are in desirable areas. In a letter dated May 21, Mittal stated, “The properties are offered through outright sale to government departments/PSUs/government organizations.”
He went on to say that all of the BSNL/MTNL properties that are up for sale are listed on a special website that has been created. Therefore, I would ask that you give orders to distribute the website widely throughout the departments, PSUs, and organizations that fall under your ministry. This would facilitate the direct sale of PSU properties to government organizations, which benefits those organizations in need of such properties,” the speaker stated.
