Argentina announces a tentative lineup for the Copa America 2024 captained by Lionel Messi. Finally, Argentina has revealed their 29-man provisional roster for the 2024 Copa America, which is scheduled to start in the USA on June 21, as well as their two international friendlies.
Before playing in the major competition later, Lionel Messi is scheduled to captain La Albiceleste in two international friendlies on June 9 and June 12, respectively, against Ecuador and Guatemala. The roster will be reduced to 26 players following the friendly, depending on each player’s performance and potential injuries.
The reigning champions will have a number of players from their FIFA World Cup team from 2022 as well as some fresh faces joining the team. Despite Lisandro Martinez’s extended absence from football owing to injury, he is a member of the Argentina defense. The three goalkeepers chosen by La Albiceleste are Franco Armani of River Plate, Emiliano Martinez, and Geronimo Rulli.
Among the notable players in their attack is Messi, who will combine with Lautaro Martinez of Inter Milan and Jualian Alvarez of Manchester City. Alejandro Garnacho, Lisandro Martinez’s Manchester United colleague, also won his first call-up to the competition after a stellar Premier League campaign.
Angel Di Maria, one of their most decorated players, has also been included in their Copa America team. This will be Di Maria’s final competition before he retires from international competition.
Paulo Dybala of AS Roma surprised everyone by being left out of the provisional roster despite having a very successful season with the Serie A team.
