Italian Open 2024: Following a pre-quarterfinal loss, Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden are eliminated. In the Italian Open 2024 men’s doubles competition, Matthew Ebden and Rohan Bopanna were unable to get past the quarterfinals.

The Italian team of Simone Boleli and Andrea Vavassori defeated the Indo-Australian pair 2–6, 4-6 on Tuesday, May 16 at Pietrangeli.

Neither Ebden nor Bopanna was able to gain any traction on their first or second serve. Their first serve win percentage of 47 demonstrated their lack of interest. Five break points were given up by the pair, which proved to be a significant role in the overall outcome of the game.

Regarding Boleli and Vavassori, they will next face Nikola Mektic and Wesley Koolhof in the quarterfinals on Thursday, May 16.Italian Open 2024: Rohan Bopanna, Matthew Ebden crash out after pre-quarters defeat

They got off to a strong start in the Round of 32, defeating Francesco Passaro and Matteo Arnaldi 6-2, 6-2, but they were unable to maintain their momentum against Boleli and Vavassori.

Bopanna and Ebden won the Miami Open trophy in January after defeating Austin Krajicek and Ivan Dodig in the championship match at the Rod Laver Arena, where they had won the Australian Open. They advanced to the Dubai Tennis Championships quarterfinals as well.

However, they struggled at the Madrid Open, Monte Carlo Masters, and Indian Wells Masters. After his Australian Open theft, Bopanna rose to the top of the rankings for doubles players, but he is now ranked No. 4.

When they compete in the French Open, which is slated to take place from May 20 to June 9, expectations will also be high.
