DC vs RR: In the flawless final over, Avesh Khan smacks five yorkers: In their second IPL 2024 match of the season, the Rajasthan Royals defeated the Delhi Capitals by a margin of 12 runs on Friday in Jaipur, maintaining their unbeaten record. With 186 runs to chase, DC only needed 17 off the final over to win, but India pacer Avesh Khan had other ideas. Sanju Samson, the captain, chose Avesh to bowl the last over, and he conceded just four runs, limiting DC to 173/5 in 20 overs.

Tristan Stubbs directed the 27-year-old’s yorker-length delivery to extra cover for a single. The following delivery from Avesh was a yorker, a dot ball that Axar Patel was unable to guide to third man. Next, Avesh gave up a single, and then Stubbs gave up another one. Avesh sent a low full toss in the fifth delivery, which Axar completely missed, and then he singled off a full delivery.

Axar (15*) and Stubbs (44*) continued to be undefeated for DC on a disappointing evening. Nandre Burger and Yuzvendra Chahal each claimed two wickets for RR’s bowling unit. Avesh Khan, meanwhile, was dismissed.

Riyan Parag first took RR to 185/5 in 20 overs with an unbeaten knock of 84 runs off 45 balls. With seven fours and six sixes in a row, Parag was in top form.

“My plan was clear, one side was longer and I wanted to bowl wide yorkers,” Avesh stated in a post-match interview. I allowed myself five seconds to process each ball before carrying out the strategy. I always back my yorkers, but it’s good for him if the batter plays a good shot. I have gained a great deal of knowledge from Boult, Burger, and Sandy. We have received a lot of support and guidance from Kumar Sangakkara and the team management, who have helped us to overcome our fear of failing. I’m constantly trying to get better and come up with new T20 delivery strategies. I work hard in the nets, get plenty of rest and relaxation, and this has helped me get better at what I do.”

Following the victory, RR is now ranked second in the points table, trailing only CSK, who leads with the same number of points but a higher net run rate after two matches. In the meantime, KKR is in fourth place and SRH is in third.
