IPL2024: Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni tie for the top spot in the elite Player of the Match standings. In their second IPL 2024 encounter against Punjab Kings, Virat Kohli of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru team made the fans’ Holi celebration even more colourful on Monday by hitting the game-winning run.
On a sticky pitch at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Kohli’s 49-ball 77 included 11 boundaries and 2 sixes, proving the doubters wrong. He also helped RCB win by 4 wickets, enabling them to successfully chase down 177.
Following Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s maiden IPL 2024 victory, Virat Kohli received a number of honors in front of the home crowd, who had been shouting his name the entire time. With his performance at bat, Kohli was named Player of the Match, matching MS Dhoni on the Indian Premier League’s all-time greats list.
Virat Kohli tied former India captain and top player for the Chennai Super Kings MS Dhoni with his 17th IPL Player of the Match title. Out of all Indian players, only Rohit Sharma has won 19 Player of the Match awards in the IPL.

In the opening game of the RCB season against the Chennai Super Kings, Virat Kohli was unable to get going. After taking a sabbatical of over two months, the star hitter is back.
When the RCB won the toss and chose to bat first in Chennai, Virat Kohli could only muster 21 runs off 20 deliveries. Even though he and captain Faf du Plessis contributed a 41-run partnership, Kohli was under pressure since he was losing partnerships.
Before Anuj Rawat and Dinesh Karthik salvaged their innings to produce 173, RCB had fallen from 41 for 0 to 42 for 3. With eight deliveries and six wickets remaining, the Super Kings started their title defense, but the total was insufficient.
On Monday, though, Virat Kohli increased his team’s prospects of victory by eliminating the Punjab Kings bowlers right away.
In the opening over of the RCB’s chase, Virat Kohli was dismissed for zero by Jonny Bairstow. The previous captain took good use of the extra opportunity, attacking the fast bowlers and dominating the bowling attack by skipping down the track.
When he got out in the sixteenth over, Virat Kohli was devastated. But with his 10-ball 28, Dinesh Karthik stood up and used all of his experience to help the team cross the finish line.
After taking home the Player of the Match Award on Monday, Virat Kohli made a playful jab at rumors circulating about his status for the T20 World Cup.
“I am aware that my name is currently associated with only promoting T20 cricket around the globe. However, I think I still have it,” he remarked.
