Are some Muslim leaders of Gujarat Congress behind the efforts to bring All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) led by Lok Sabha MP Asaduddin Owaisi in state?
Ahmedabad based Gujarati fortnightly Gujarat siyasat and its English Website siyasat.net carried the detailed report and analysis of impending entry of AIMIM In Gujarat. On base of this report , national media also published related reports and even a Hyderabad based Urdu Chanel also covered the report.
Close on the heels of recent reports in media that All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) led by Lok Sabha MP Asaduddin Owaisi is likely to storm in Gujarat in couple months and will fight local elections which are slated in 2020. The development has sent Muslim Congress leaders in a tizzy.
There is buzz in political corridor of Delhi and Hyderabad that some high profile Congress Muslim leaders are happy at this chain of events as they have to be loyal to their political masters and they cannot speak anything for betterment of Muslims. so They feel guilty at many occasions. Muslim Congress leaders are nervous because their political future is likely to be finished with AIMIM coming here, in this situation some state Muslim leaders may switch over to AIMIM , Though AIMIM president Asaduddin owaisi, declined to discuss the party’s expansion in Gujarat.
In Past, there were reports in 2015 at the time of local election that Asaduddin Owaisi and Ahmed Patel had actually become “Bhai-Bhai” and that the former allegedly struck a deal with the later for not contesting the polls in Gujarat. At that time Ahmed Patel was considered as close aide of Congress President Sonia Gandhi.
It may be noted that The Social Democratic Party of India has already entered in the state under the guidance of MK Faizey party’s National President. State unit is already active in most of district of Gujarat and membership drive for SDPI Is very much underway in Gujarat. The AIMIM leaders, who regularly invoke 2002 Gujarat riots to incite emotion of the Muslim community, however backtracked from their decision to contest the Gujarat election in past , citing absence of local base as the reason.
There is strong indication that AIMIM may go for some seat adjustment In 2020 Gujarat local election as Asaduddin Owaisi’s honeymoon with the Congress is not new. In fact, he has for long allied with the Congress – both at the center and in the state. He however changed course after the BJP victory in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, and declared to expand his party, which is based in Hyderabad, to other parts of the country
. According to some reliable sources from Congress headquarter at Delhi that there was as such no “enthusiasm” for the AIMIM in Gujarat as claimed by some local Muslims and the entire ‘AIMIM euphoria’ was actually manufactured.
