Glenn Maxwell reveals his best learning experience and swears to stay in the IPL until he “can’t walk” anymore. Australia’s Glenn Maxwell, an all-rounder who won the World Cup, declared he would play in the Indian Premier League until the end of his career, calling it one of his best learning opportunities.
Since joining the Royal Challengers Bangalore team in 2021, Maxwell has discussed his experiences sharing the changing room with players such as AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli.
Arriving at the Melbourne airport ahead of the Big Bash League season, Glenn Maxwell discussed the impact of the Indian Premier League on his career, emphasizing that he plans to play until he “can’t walk anymore”. In the first game of BBL 13, Maxwell will lead the Melbourne Stars in their matchup with the Brisbane Heat in Brisbane.
IPL 2024 Retention: Complete player roster
Maxwell has been a highly sought-after player in the IPL since he made his debut for the Delhi Capitals in 2012. He is renowned for his ability to turn games around with his aggressive batting and effective off-spin bowling.
In the IPL, Maxwell has experienced both highs and lows because his seasons with the Delhi and Mumbai Indians were hardly prosperous. In 2014, the Australian all-rounder made waves for Punjab Kings, but it is at RCB that he has finally reached his full potential in the lucrative league.
“I will likely play the IPL until I am unable to walk any more, making it my final tournament ever. I was discussing how helpful the Indian Premier League (IPL) has been to me over the course of my career, including the people I’ve met, the coaches I have worked under, and the international players you get to interact with. Glenn Maxwell made this statement, which the AAP reported.
“For two months, you’re hanging out with Virat and AB and having conversations with them while watching other games. It’s simply the best educational opportunity for any player.
Hopefully, many of our Australian players will be able to travel to the Indian Premier League and work in conditions that are somewhat akin to those in the West Indies—that is, a little bit drier and spinning.”
Maxwell joined the Royals in the 2021 season, having been acquired by them for an incredible amount of Rs 14.25 crore following a heated bidding war. His IPL career took a new turn when he joined RCB, where he immediately established himself as a key player.
Maxwell scored a league-high 513 runs in 15 games during the 2021 season, with a strike percentage of 144.10.
As he demonstrated his abilities in the ensuing season, Maxwell was one of the three players that RCB decided to keep for the 2022 IPL.
The fact that he was retained for a sizeable amount of Rs 11 crore demonstrated the enormous value he added to the team. Maxwell has been a key member of the RCB middle order for the entirety of his tenure.
He frequently fills the role of a finisher, accelerating the pace of scoring towards the end of an innings.
Maxwell continued to be effective in the 2023 season, amassing 400 runs in 14 games, including three fifty-score innings.
Maxwell’s retention for the IPL 2024 came as no surprise, given his outstanding performance during Australia’s successful World Cup 2023 campaign. Before leaving for Australia, Maxwell achieved his first-ever double century in an incredible knock during a World Cup match against Afghanistan. He then went on to win a T20I series against India with a hundred runs.
