A day after the Men in Blue’s Asia Cup roster was revealed, Ravichandran Ashwin offered his opinion on who should be India’s No. 4 batter in the 50-over format.
“One of the most hotly contested positions is No. 4. We place a great deal of importance on Shreyas Iyer. He is a very reliable No. 4 for India and one of the top players in the Indian lineup against spin. Every time he batted at No. 4, he was essential to India’s success. There is no question as to who should bat at No. 4 for India if Ashwin is fully ready to play, he stated on his YouTube channel, Around The World of Cricket.
“Tilak Verma is an exciting talent,” he continued. As backup middle-order batters, Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak each provide an extra dimension to the club. In the Ireland series, Tilak hasn’t scored a lot of goals. But from the first ball, he has displayed unbelievable intent. He is entering with a clear head. The management has given him the go-ahead for a backup position because he brings in new blood. Likewise for Surya.
