Union Cabinet Major Reshuffle By Wednesday? Jyotiraditya Scindia And Sushil Modi are Strong Ministerial Probables

An Union Cabinet reshuffle is expected later this week, with reports suggesting that it might take place as early as tomorrow evening. While there has been no official announcement, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has held meetings with top Ministers and BJP leaders. Reports indicate that the reshuffle plans are nearing completion.

As per an update by news agency ANI that quoted sources, the expansion will take place this week. The appointment of Union Minister Thaawarchand Gehlot as the Governor of Karnataka earlier today is also being interpreted as a hint ahead of the reshuffle

“I will be submitted my resignation from all three positions including Rajya Sabha MP and Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment tomorrow in person,” Gehlot said.

For the last few weeks, Modi has been meeting Union ministers in groups with BJP president J P Nadda also being present in the exercise to review their works and gather feedback. The BJP brass has also held organisational meetings in different states.

Besides the Prime Minister, there are presently 53 officials in the Council of Ministers. Its maximum number can be 81. If the prime minister goes ahead with the exercise, this will the first expansion of the Council of Ministers since the 2019 elections that gave him a second term in office.

The new ministers in the Narendra Modi government, who are likely to be sworn in include former Congress heavyweight from Madhya Pradesh, Scindia, who is now in the BJP; former Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Modi; senior BJP organisational heavyweights party general secretary, Bhupender Yadav from Rajasthan and Kailash Vijayvargiya, from Madhya Pradesh, who was in charge of the BJP campaign in West Bengal. BJP spokesperson and minority face Syed Zafar Islam is also tipped for a central government role.Syed Islam’s role in wooing Congress leader and former Union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia to the BJP has also apparently weighed in his favour.

Also on the master list are former Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal and former Maharashtra CM Narayan Rane, besides, Maharashtra Beed MP Pritam Munde and Gopinath Munde’s daughter is on the reshuffle candidates list.

From Uttar Pradesh which is headed for ‘make or break’ elections for the BJP next year, BJP UP chief Swatantra Dev Singh, a certainty; Pankaj Chaudhary, MP from Maharajganj, Varun Gandhi, and alliance partner, Anupriya Patel are among the probables.

Rajya Sabha MP Anil Jain, Odisha MPs, Ashwini Vaishnaw and former Baijayant Panda; former Railway Minister from Bengal Dinesh Trivedi are also on the list. Jain is also President of the All India Tennis Association.

Over the last few hours, several leading politicians whose names have cropped up have begun making their way towards Delhi. BJP leaders Sarbananda Sonowal, the former Assam chief minister who made way for Himanta Biswa Sarma in the state, Jyotiraditya Scindia and Sushil Modi are seen as strong ministerial probables. In Bihar, all eyes are also on all eyes are on whether Lok Janshakti Party’s Pashupati Kumar Paras will be a part of the expansion.

Both Sonowal and Scindia have been photographed leaving for Delhi earlier today. According to reports, Janata Dal leader CP Singh has also reached Delhi today.

Sources have told that it would be a major reshuffle that may see induction of over 20 new ministers in the cabinet. The sources said that besides the poll-bound Uttar Pradesh, big states such as Maharashtra and West Bengal, which recently went to the polls, may see greater representation in the Union cabinet.

“It is not going to be a minor arrangement, but a major reshuffle,” sources added.. The sources also claimed that some ministers might lose their ministerial berths.
