Following the stupendous success of Mamata Banerjee in thwarting the BJP juggernaut; certain “experts” are taking her name as the future Prime minister as she has shown the mettle to take on the Modi “myth/cult” most seriously and also successfully implemented into action in terms of electoral result.
However this invocation of the name of Banerjee as PM is coming with a lot of ifs and buts!
One, Trinamool Congress has “no ideology as such”!
But what is the “ideology” of BJP at first place which swears in the name of “nationalism”; but its actions threaten the very IDEA OF INDIA itself ! And less said about its “respect” towards Constitutional values the better with many of its leaders often openly expressing displeasure over the words “Secular”, “Socialist” and “Integrity of the nation” as enshrined in the Preamble of the Constitution!
In contrast, TMC is perhaps the only party which does not act as the messiah of any particular caste, religious or ethnic group. Rather it works for the benefit of all and does not “demonise” any particular section of population. Yes, the current administration of West Bengal religiously works according to the spirit of Indian Constitution with sole emphasis on the noble concepts of Secularism, Socialism, Equality, Fraternity assuring the Dignity of the Individual and Integrity of the Nation. Still if the “experts” demand to know the “ideology” of TMC; the apt answer would be “Humanity”.
Two, it is being demanded that Banerjee’s case as potential prime minister would get stronger if she can develop West Bengal as a “model state”! Nothing can be more hilarious than it. As many as 9 Indian Prime ministers (including Narendra Modi) hailed from or represented Uttar Pradesh in Parliament! Now was/is Uttar Pradesh a “model state” in any definition possible! Rather it has always functioned as one of the most laggard states of India!
Next, does there exist a single state in India which can be termed as “Role Model” of Development! Yes, Modi’s credential as potential Prime minister was artificially promoted through projection of a myth named “Gujarat model of development”! But it was furthest from the truth. Firstly, how can a state, associated with a dastardly pogrom, be termed as a “role model” specially when most of the butchers are still at large with Muslims getting treated as absolute non-entities! Secondly, when Modi was presiding as the Chief minister, Gujarat used to lag in all possible indexes of Social Development right from malnourished children, anaemic women, hunger to school drop-out ratio!
In such a perspective, how can Bengal’s emergence as a “model state” be set as a pre-condition of her elevation to the throne of New Delhi! Whether Mamata Banerjee would ultimately grace the Prime ministerial chair or not can be answered by Sheer Time only; but by no logic can the “ideology” of TMC or card of Bengal’s “development” be played as the yardstick to measure her credential to don the mantle of the nation !
