Beginning with the 2024–25 academic year, the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), which was designated as a deemed-to-be university earlier this year, will provide postgraduate degree programmes.

Currently, the only postgraduate diploma programmes offered by IIMC are in mass communication and journalism.

According to IIMC Additional Director, two Master of Arts (MA) programs—in Strategic Communication and Media Business Studies—will launch in August.

Officials have stated that the IIMC campus in New Delhi will offer 40 seats for each of these two MA degrees. There are five regional centres for IMC, an independent organisation under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

Special quotas for seasoned professionals and members of the armed services would be available in addition to the 40 seats allotted to each of the two courses, officials said. The course fee will be approximately Rs 2.4 lakh for a single academic year.

According to them, the goal of the Masters programme in Media Business Studies (MA-MBS) is to satisfy the need for qualified managers in the media sector. According to the officials, media companies have grown increasingly complicated over time, necessitating the need for individuals with industry knowledge to keep up with the rapid advancements in technology.

However, according to the officials, the MA in Strategic Communication would train professionals to manage communications that support the achievement of national and organisational strategic goals.

The goal of this programme is to produce skilled StratCom experts who can work with governments, think tanks, the public and private sectors, and multinational corporations in the field.
