At the event, Google Chief Scientist Jeff Dean stated, “Google has been using AI in our products since 2001 when one of my colleagues created an innovative way of spelling correction.” Dean sat down with Aadhaar chief architect Pramod Varma to talk about AI, its potential, and its drawbacks.

The two leaders spoke about the promise of artificial intelligence (AI), accessibility and inclusion, policy discourse and governance, reskilling and job transformation, multidisciplinary collaboration on AI across sectors, etc. at the “Leaders Connect With Jeff Dean” event.

Myself and a few others began experimenting with large-scale neural networks in 2012. When asked about his thoughts on AI development and its origins, Dean replied, “We were interested in how these powerful models could be used for a variety of tasks including speech recognition and computer vision, as well as how they could be used to better understand language and language-oriented tasks.”
