After winning the Davis Cup, Novak Djokovic chastises British supporters for their lack of decorum. Serbia defeated Great Britain 2-0 in the David Cup final, and Novak Djokovic claimed that British fans had treated him with “disrespect” the entire time.
During his straight-set victory over Norrie, Djokovic claimed that a few British fans tried to bother him. He yelled at them to stop talking during his post-match interview.
To the dismay of the spectators, Djokovic demonstrated his superiority by easily defeating Norrie 6-4, 6-4, setting up Serbia’s match against Italy in the semifinals on Saturday.
“The entire match, pretty much, [they showed] disrespect, but again, that’s something I kind of have to be prepared for,” Djokovic stated.
“In the Davis Cup, it’s normal that sometimes fans step over the line, but in the heat of the moment, you react too, and you, in a way, how can I say, show that you don’t allow this kind of behaviour.”
“They are free to act anyway they choose, but I will react to it. We did wind up having a brief conversation since they had been trying to irritate me the entire game,” he continued.
After a long season, Djokovic acknowledged that he was exhausted, but he still wanted to help Serbia win the Davis Cup to round up the year.
“Playing for my country on the court is always an extra push, extra motivation,” said Djokovic, who is looking to finish off a fantastic year. “Part of me looks forward to rest and recalibration and leave the racquet on the side but right now I cannot allow myself to enjoy those thoughts about holidays.”
Every time Djokovic on the court, he breaks records. In yet another amazing season, Djokovic has won the US Open, Australian Open, and French Open. The only significant setback he has suffered was against Carlos Alcaraz of Spain in the Wimbledon final.
At the ATP Finals in Turin on Sunday, he completed the circuit season with a record-tying eighth championship, further solidifying his dominance.
In 21 Davis Cup singles matches since 2011, the Serb has not lost. With his 44th Davis Cup triumph, Djokovic has eclipsed former doubles No. 1 Nenad Zimonjic to break Serbia’s record for most Davis Cup match wins.
