Among the Muslim countries who are host to 100 most influential females in the BBC’s list are Bahrain, Yemen, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Iran, Chad, Azerbaijan, Indonesia, Iraq, Syria, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Senegal, Malaysia, Somaliland, Nigeria and Afghanistan.
The women from these Muslim countries who are included in the BBC’s ‘100 Women’ are Esraa al-Shafei (Bahrain), Nimco Ali (Somaliland), Boushra Yahya Almutawakel (Yemen), Alina Anisimova (Kyrgyzstan), Leyla Belyalova (Uzbekistan), Raneen Bukhari and Hayat Sindi (Saudi Arabia), Shrouk El-Attar and Raghda Ezzeldin – both from Egypt.
Also included in the list of world’s most influential female figures are Mitra Farazandeh, Maral Yazarloo-Pattrick and Shaparak Shajarizadeh (Iran), Hindou Oumarou Ibrahim (Chad), Reyhan Jamalova (Azerbaijan), Sakdiyah Maruf (Indonesia), Amina J Mohammed (Nigeria), Yanar Mohammed (Iraq), Nujeen Mustafa and Dima Nashawi (Syria), Fatma Samoura (Senegal), Sima Sarkar (Bangladesh), Nenney Shushaidah Binti Shamsuddin (Malaysia), Nargis Taraki and Safiya Wazir (Afghanistan), and Krishna Kumari (Pakistan).
The list also contains names of some Muslim females who are from non-Muslim states like Jameela Jamil who hails from the United Kingdom.
Besides the females from the Muslim countries, the BBC has also listed Viji Penkoottu, Rahibi Soma Popere and Meena Gayen from India, Jing Zhao and Luo Yang rom China, Gladys West from the United States, Setsuko Takamizawa from Japan, Haven Shepherd from Vietnam and Juliet Sargeant from Tanzania as world’s most powerful and inspiring women.
“Ranging in age from 15 to 94, and from more than 60 countries, the BBC 100 Women list includes leaders, trailblazers and everyday heroes”, the BBC said.
“BBC 100 Women names 100 influential and inspirational women around the world every year and shares their stories”, it said.
“It’s been a momentous year for women’s rights around the globe, so in 2018 BBC 100 Women will reflect the trailblazing women who are using passion, indignation and anger to spark real change in the world around them”, it added.
