NEET, NET Row: Panel on exam reforms meets today: According to sources, the high-level panel of the Union education ministry tasked with examining the National Testing Agency’s operations and proposing changes to exams will convene on Monday.
The ministry on Saturday informed a seven-member panel led by former Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) chief K Radhakrishnan to ensure transparent, easy, and equitable administration of exams through the National Testing Agency (NTA) in the midst of a dispute over irregularities in competitive exams.
“The panel will convene for its first meeting tomorrow, Monday, in an expedited manner. The committee has two months to turn in its report. The suggested changes will be put into effect by the following exam cycle. According to a source, the group will also consider the exam schedule and offer recommendations.
The panel will offer suggestions for changes to the NTA’s organisation and operations, data security procedures, and examination process mechanism.
Other panellists included former director of AIIMS-Delhi Randeep Guleria, vice-chancellor of the University of Hyderabad, professor emeritus in the Department of Civil Engineering at IIT-Madras, co-founder of People Strong and board member of Karmayogi Bharat Pankaj Bansal, dean of student affairs at IIT-Delhi Aditya Mittal, and joint secretary of the Education Ministry Govind Jaiswal.
The committee is also responsible for reviewing the current security procedures pertaining to the preparation of the papers and other procedures for various inspections and offering suggestions to strengthen the system’s resilience.
While NEET-UG 2024 is under scanner over several irregularities, including alleged paper leaks, the UGC-NET was cancelled a day after it was conducted as the ministry received input that its integrity had been compromised.
