How this 17-year-old boy passed the first attempt in NEET UG, JEE Advanced, and WBJEE? Avik Das, 17, is among the select few applicants who passed the West Bengal JEE 2024, JEE Advanced 2024, and NEET UG 2024 on their first try. Das wants to become an astrophysicist and wants to be admitted to the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru.
The 17-year-old boy is eager to pursue astrophysics research and plans to enroll in a BS-MS Physics program. I have always been fascinated by space, stars, galaxies, supernovae, black holes, and other celestial bodies.
The boy, who also finished first in Class 12 at WB HS with a percentage of 99.2, stated, “I was motivated and drawn to become an astrophysicist when I used to read Stephen Hawking’s novels in Class 5.
“My objective was to gain admission to IISc. There are four main gates to the BS-MS course: JEE Main, NEET, JEE Advanced, and IAT. The ranker who received an AIR-7 in WBJEE stated, “Most students prepare for JEE or NEET, but I thought that if I clear both exams then I will have maximum chances to get admission into IISc.”
It’s not easy to prepare for JEE, NEET, and WBJEE. His parents were first hesitant as well, believing it would place “more burden” on him, but ultimately they had faith in his will to get admitted to IISc.
“For the preparation, I chose the Allen online coaching program and adhered to a rigorous schedule. Since studying was my first passion, I had no trouble understanding the material. I ensured that I understood every idea and term from NCERT for biology and chemistry. I answered thousands of inquiries from prior years. The boy who scored 69 on the CRL to pass the JEE Advanced commented, “This gave me more confidence.”
“I used to get up at seven or seven thirty in the morning and study, followed by tutoring, mock exams, and self-study. Das, who does not have a social media account and uses his parent’s WhatsApp to stay in touch with pals, continued, “I used to go to bed at midnight.”
JEE and NEET call for distinct skill sets. Similar to JEE, one must be able to answer problems using logic, numbers, and mathematics. In NEET, however, physics is used to measure numerical ability, with fact memorization playing a major role. So neither was simple for me,” Avik, who received a 705 out of 720 score on the NEET UG 2024, said.
