On election day, Delhi swelters in a heatwave; a yellow notice is issued. Severe heatwave conditions are expected in most of Rajasthan and in a few isolated areas of Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

It is anticipated that the heatwave will also impact Gujarat, Vidarbha, Central Maharashtra, West Uttar Pradesh, East Madhya Pradesh, Jammu division, and Himachal Pradesh.

HEAT SORTING UNDER POLLING HEAT

In spite of the extreme heat, polling for the sixth phase of the Lok Sabha elections got underway in Delhi on Saturday at 7 am. One degree above normal, or 41 degrees Celsius, was recorded.

A ‘yellow’ warning has been issued and the Met office has indicated that a maximum temperature of 44 degrees Celsius is expected. According to the Delhi election board, plans are being made to help voters avoid the intense heat.

TIDY NIGHTS AHEAD

Between May 24 and May 28, the IMD has also forecast mild nighttime conditions throughout Rajasthan, Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh.

DEATHS IN RAJASTHAN RELATED TO HEATWAVES

In Rajasthan, where temperatures reached 49 degrees Celsius, six deaths from suspected heat stroke were reported, officials said on Friday. The Disaster Management and Relief Department of the state reports that one person each in Bhilwara, Bikaner, Jodhpur, and Balotra died.

Severe heatwave conditions gripped many sections of the state, with Phalodi recording the highest temperature at 49 degrees Celsius.

Daytime temperatures have risen significantly due to the unrelenting heatwave, which is being fueled by a high-pressure system over Northern India. The present heatwave is expected to last, according to the IMD, which has prompted officials to take the required safety measures to protect the public during the election season.
