According to a company official, Coal India Ltd. (CIL) has exceeded its yearly target of 610 million tonnes of supply to the thermal power sector, reaching 610.8 MT as of March 27. “This represents the largest coal supply to the power sector to date,” he declared.

In comparison to the same period in the previous fiscal year, CIL’s supply of coal to the sector increased by 29.3 million tonnes in absolute volume terms, he said.

According to a company statement, the miner’s average daily supply of coal to coal-fired plants is currently 1.76 million tonnes, reflecting the growing demand from the power sector.

In response to the anticipated 250 GW summertime peak demand for electricity, CIL is working to increase production.

According to the official, offtake to power plants in 2022–2023 exceeded the commitment of 565 million tonnes at 586.6 million tonnes.

Data show that as of March 26, the amount of coal stock at domestic coal-based power plants was 47.1 million tonnes, up 13.7 million tonnes from the same period the previous year.
