Raghuram Iyer is named chief executive officer by IOA. Raghuram Iyer was named CEO of the Indian Olympic Association, the organization said in a news release on Friday.
Even International Olympic Committee (IOC) chairman Thomas Bach brought up the problem of the organization’s lack of a CEO when he was in Mumbai for the IOC Session a few months ago.
“We think Mr. Raghuram Iyer offers a special blend of strategic vision, leadership, and in-depth knowledge of the sports industry. IOA President PT Usha said in a statement that “His appointment is a significant step towards the continued growth and success of Indian sports on the global stage.”
“I am appreciative of the distinguished members of the Executive Council’s unflinching collaboration and unwavering support in the successful appointment of the CEO for IOA. Their commitment has been crucial to reaching this goal, and I’m looking forward to our ongoing cooperation to ensure the success of the lOA,” she stated.
Usha had stated in March of last year that just one candidate had been deemed deserving of the CEO position despite the IOA having established criteria for the position. The IOA then ran a re-advertisement in which it requested applications.
A “management professional with an experience of no less than 10 years as the CEO of a company/entity with an annual turnover of no less than Rs 25 crore” is one of the eligibility requirements for the CEO position.
The CEO “shall be proposed by a nomination committee comprising the IOA president, chairman of the Athletes’ Commission, and one IOC member from India,” according to Article 15.3 of the updated IOA constitution.
After a span of three months, the IOC once more voiced apprehension regarding the IOA’s tardiness in designating the CEO.
